Gubernatorial candidate Ammon Bundy arrested at St. Luke's in Meridian

Independent candidate Ammon Bundy was arrested late Friday at St. Luke's in Meridian.

According to the Ada County Sheriff jail website, Bundy was booked into the jail at 1:15 a.m. on misdemeanor trespassing by Meridian Police.

"Make no mistake about it, this was an ambush arrest with no legal grounds," Bundy's campaign said in a statement.

Meridian Police says a child was admitted to the hospital earlier in the week for severe malnourishment. A few days later, after gaining weight, the child was released from the hospital and into the care of the parents.

"During a follow up appointment earlier, this week it was determined the child had again lost a significant amount of weight and when the parents canceled the next follow-up appointment and could not be located, the Meridian Police were contacted and advised this child’s condition could lead to severe injury or even death if not treated," police said in a news release.

The child was eventually taken into custody and to St. Luke's in Meridian after Garden City PD conducted a traffic stop on the fathers vehicle.

It was there, officials say, when Bundy and several of his followers showed up to the hospital and "refused to leave the property when asked to do so," Meridian PD says.

"After several attempts to get Bundy to leave the property and his continual refusal to do so, the Meridian Police Department arrested Bundy for trespassing," a news release state.

Three other people were arrested.

"Ask yourself this, if they can revoke your parental rights and take custody of your child over a missed doctor's appointment, what else can they do and how did they get this power," Bundy's campaign said.
